Time Commitment: July and August work full time every other week. Some flexibility in schedule available.

Qualifications:
1. Commitment to Jesus Christ which reflects Christ in every aspect of his/her vocation and personal life.

2. Previous Outdoor Leadership experience (desirable but not mandatory).
3. Knowledge and background in outdoor learning experiences.
4. Valid training in CPR and First Aid

Report To:
Program Director

Supervises:
Ascent backpacking programs, activities and mentors assigned to her/him by the Program Director.

Job Goal:
Carry out goals and objectives of the Ascent program as outlined by the Program Director. Instruct participants in the fundamental skills necessary to enjoy backpacking safely with minimum impact on the environment.
Establish moral values, self-confidence, mutual support within the group, acceptable behavior, and self-discipline in participants.

The incumbent must be a person who embodies the following:

• An understanding of and commitment to the special Vision and Mission Vision of Peak 7 Adventures and a compatible personal value system.
• An understanding of and ability to work with others.
• An appropriate sense of behavior when working with youth.
• An endless capacity for work—with sufficient physical and emotional energy to work long hours.
• A self-starter who creates ideas and follows through without prodding but knows when and how to ask for assistance and counsel.
• Ability to set realistic objectives and attain them.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Have a thorough knowledge of all the outdoor adventure policies approved by the Peak 7 administrative team and be responsible for their implementation.
• Adhere to the Ascent Trip Management guidelines and General Guidelines for Trip Safety.
• When engaging in water related activities, adhere to Peak 7’s General Swimming and Water Safety Guidelines
• Discuss Wilderness Objective Hazards with all participants
• Be prepared to follow Peak 7 Adventures Emergency Action Plan
• Maintain discipline and work to increase self-confidence, mutual support within the group, morale and cooperation within the entire outdoor adventure program.
• Assist the Program Director with scheduling, providing transportation and special activities.
• Be accountable to the Program Director for all equipment. Arrange collection of any lost equipment or equipment not returned.
• Recommend to the Program Director budget items for the next year in his/her area of expertise.
• Permit participants to be only in authorized activity areas at the appropriate time.
• Secure all facilities and equipment before leaving.
• Instill in each participant a respect for Peak 7’s equipment and property, its care and proper use.
• Strive to improve skills and techniques by attending clinics and using resources made available by the Program Director.
• Attend all staff meetings and carry out assignments as outlined by the Program Director.
• Perform other such duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and which may be requested by the Program Director.
